road rage, traffic, and mamang pulis

FOTA*%$$&%w*$568$^89%^*$!!!!!!!!

I just have to shout that here.

Thanks to horrendous traffic this morning in Pasig, it took me an hour and a half from home to office despite taking the route that usually has light traffic. On normal days, it takes me only a little over 30 minutes.  The heavy traffic surprised me today because there’s no more school and I don’t know of any city event or celebration being held on April 3. Or am I missing something? Is there a funeral march? Is there a rally? A transporation strike, perhaps? Or is it the end of the world?

I tried hard  to amuse myself all the way through by listening to Chico and Delamar’s Morning Rush on RX 93.1, although their topic today (top 10 rules you hate) didn’t give me the laughs I needed to ignore the terrible traffic. Then I reached this part of Shaw Boulevard:

Three morons blocked my way! Leading the pack is this green Isuzu with yellow plate TWN 850. Fu*^%$ yo*#!!!!!! Go back to kindergarten, you idiot!

Then I remembered my post on road rage under fire and told myself that I should control my feelings before they find a way to control me. So I didn’t honk; it was useless anyway. But the jeepney behind me was honking nonstop. “Patience, man, patience,” I was telling myself. Five minutes passed. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. “Patience, man, patience,” I mumbled. “You don’t want to be in the news for killing three morons because of traffic.”

“Ah, make that four: the jeepney driver behind me.”

Then mamang pulis came.

He wasn’t in uniform but he’s big enough (no pun intended) to bawl the drivers out to…ehem…clear the way for me. So yeah, thanks to mamang pulis, because for once in my life I felt like a dignitary with police escort to make sure I have the first right of way. And so you can guess that I screeched all the way through that open road.

But before I did that, I rolled down my window and said to mamang pulis: “Boss, thank you!” I hope those words were enough to let him know that I really, really appreciate that he came to the rescue and prevented me from committing murder at 8 in the morning. 😀

  1. Napansin ko din yang traffic today. I left house to commute via FX to the Podium, and it took quite a while for an FX to turn up and also I noticed the slow moving traffic.

Wala naman akong natatandaang event for this day. For once though, it’s nice to hear a Police to be off assistance.

  2. ferdz: nice to know i wasn’t the only who noticed the horrendous traffic today. now that it’s time to go home, i hope the situation is better.

  3. didn’t notice anything untoward today. i guess that’s one of the rare times you actually like having a big scary mamang pulis around. 🙂

  4. {illyria}: absolutely. he looked scary alright, but he saved me from spending the rest of my lifetime behind bars 🙂

  5. i admire your coolness on such situation. wala naman talaga mangyayari kung dadaanin sa init ng ulo eh.

but what really impressed me is the matabang policeman to the rescue. so all’s well that ends well.

  6. Keeping cool is always the more prudent approach – at least you didn’t step down and hurled invectives to the dumbos. You’ll never know there’s a “Carlito” among them hehe 🙂

Know what, those idiots should have been given tickets for obstructing traffic. In a sense mamang pulis gave them a free pass duh 😦

  7. Maybe this show that public service still has some saving grace left, and there might be hope for betterment, like a flicker of light in the darkness. Thanks to ‘Mamang pulis’ over there.

  8. that’s very good of you. you were able to control your temper and yan ang matinong noypi. patience is a virtue. sanay gayahin ka ng mamang driver. kaya lang parang ang bagal naman yata ng dating ng pulis (as usual)… at least may dumating din. buti na rin at napasalamatan mo sya para mapansin din yung mga kabutihang bagay na ginagawa nila.

    ayos ka tol!

  9. remember that day we drove around in adolf looking for a gift for the friend who got married? bismuth thought the policemen along the way were extra nice. is it the mercedes-benz or is the traffic police really becoming smarter?

  10. lawstude: it was difficult to keep cool, but in the end, it was worth it. i should just keep reminding myself that there are quite a lot of stupid drivers in Metro Manila. 😀

bw: i wanted them to be given tickets, too, but at that moment, all i wanted was to get through the traffic jam.

major tom: i also believe many of our public servants are doing what they’re supposed to do, even in the midst of rotten ones.

donG hO: i’m always mindful of my ‘thank you’, especially to blue collar workers. it’s part of my education 🙂

mussolini: it could be both. some policemen are nice to motorists who drive vintage or flashy cars; there are those who are genuinely good at what they do.
