That 39-point lead by Celtics over Lakers in their final game is the biggest shocker in this NBA Finals season, and I can only guess tabloids in Manila will run sports headlines like:
“Lakers nagpagahasa sa Celtics, 131-92″
“Kobe kinapos sa Game 6, nilampaso ng Celtics”
“Lakers pinulot sa kangkukan”
Maybe MVP regular season Kobe really needs Shaquille on his side; both have won three championship titles for Lakers. This should have been Kobe’s first without Shaq, only Celtics didn’t give it to him. In fact, they ran away with it — a victory so sweet it made some history:
This is Celtics’ first championship after 22 years (Remember Larry Bird?). It is their 17th crown overall, which they won on the 17th of June.
The 39-point lead is the biggest margin of victory in an NBA Finals. It surpassed the record set by a 1965 NBA Finals game between—surprise!—Celtics and Lakers.
Celtics is the latest team to prevent the first team in history to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the Finals.
And, last of all, Celtics proved that indeed, Kobe is “no Michael Jordan,” as Celtics fans shouted during Game 6.
Can you suggest your own tabloid headline for this? Haha!

Yep, what a butt kickin it was. As a Lakers fan, I’ll have nightmares tonight.
Erik: my brother, a Lakers fan, will join your nightmares tonight. Haha! I’m a Spurs fan, but I’m glad the underdog won the title. I mean, those guys worked really damn hard for this win, didn’t they?
congratulations to celtics! they really deserve that trophy. i’ve watched all the six games in the finals. magaling talaga sila although im a Lakers fan too.
dalawa na kami ni erik ang nagkaka nightmare. hehehe…
LOL! how about,
“Lakers, mga buldet”
i don’t watch sports, but i do like it when the underdogs win.
my brother and my father is rather sad, too. i was like, it’s just a b-ball game and they were like, “oh, dahhhling, you don’t know anything about it.” hahaha. “it’s the finaaals, blah blah.”
and as if to prevent nightmares, i caught my younger brother 1 time praying like a cute little boy before his bed time. grabe naman ang laker nightmares na ‘yan!
Since I’m not a fan of super-buwaya Kobe Bryant, I was hoping for the Celtics to sweep the Lakers in 4 games
It’s a pleasure to watch a basketball team that plays like a team and that’s the Celtics. Congrats to a well deserved win
donG hO: you are lucky to have the privilege to watch all games live. hehe. Corporate slaves like me have to do with replays or merely reviews.
{illyria}: somehow i knew that word would come out somewhere in here. i just didn’t expect it would come from you. LOL!
acey: your brother prayed for the Lakers? man, how young is your brother? can I send my prayer intentions, too? LOL
bw: i guess many pinoys share your sentiment about Kobe. i do. Kobe’s a basketball superstar; he’s very good at what he does, but his attitude turns off many people. me included. so yeah, let’s give the title to the Celtics and boy, didn’t they just proved worthy?
It was so sweet indeed, except that it is not as sweet for me since I am a big Lakers fans since I was in highschool. But anyway, at least those Majic Johnson-Larry Bird days have been relived and I am just glad for that.
major tom: i hope you’re not getting nightmares, too.
my brother is like 16. haha.
acey: haha. he’s young enough to be a credible spokesperson to heaven. haha.
