Filipinos all over the world will have another reason to watch American Idol Season 7, thanks to Ramiele Malubay who braved the series of tough auditions to land a spot in the Top 24.
During her audition, Paula Abdul said she’s “phenomenal.” Randy was impressed with her “big voice for such a sweet, little girl.” Both gave her the ticket to Hollywood, except Simon who said she “isn’t a contemporary singer, but a hotel singer.”
But after Ramiele’s rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Until You Come Back To Me” during Hollywood Week, Simon was convinced she’s got talent, and this sealed her spot in the Top 24.
I think, though, that Ramiele isn’t the strongest candidate this season, which is touted to have the most talented singers in AI history. There’s Carly Smithson, who’s controversial because of her secret past. 
I also like Amanda Overmyer, the rockstar nurse. Soulful Chikezie Eze is also a force to reckon with. Then there’s 17-year-old David Archuleta whose amazing voice and diverse taste in music might make him the last man standing. What this means is Filipino communities in the US will have to work way harder than they did for Jasmine Trias whose best and only memorable performance on AI, I think, was her version of ”Inseparable.”
But of all American Idols, my all-time favorite is Season 5’s Katharine McPhee (Chichay, I can see your violent reaction, LOL!). Man, this woman is captivating, whatever she sings. Watch her in the ”Love Story” music video. Whew! She makes me perspire. Hahaha! 
She’s charming in her beach photoshoot, which I’m sure ironwulf wouldn’t hesitate to do if she’d come over and model for him, right bro?
Too bad she fell for and recently married broadway actor Cokas (sounds like jackass to me), who’s old enough to be her sugar daddy. Lucky bastard!
Anyway, I hope Ramiele Malubay makes it to the finals. If she does, I’d most probably find a way to watch the live coverage—even in the office! (I hope my boss isn’t reading this. Are you, boss?)
I rarely watch TV, but AI does give me reason to spend an hour or two in front of the boobtube (besides the TV series Dirt where I hope to see, pretty soon, the Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox make-out session, hehehe

and she’s done pretty well as a singer, considering that the Idol winner during her batch was dropped by his record label. Talent isn’t enough; you should be able to sell albums. And Katharine did it even if she’s not even the big winner.

And yeah i agree, Ramiele’s talented enough to surpass what Jasmine has reached in AI. Ramiele just has to be consistent and must always, always choose the right songs for her range and quality of voice. Now I sound like I know how to sing well, haha.
